Welcome to the October edition of the Seppelt Harvest eNewsletter. It has been a successful few weeks for Seppelt, with the 2005 Seppelt Drumborg Riesling, the 2003 Seppelt St. Peters Grampians Shiraz and the new 2003 Seppelt Benno Bendigo Shiraz in huge demand, in many instances selling out on the day of release.

It was lovely to see so many people at the Australian Wines of Distinction Roadshow in September with the Seppelt 1905 Para Tawny proving to be the drawcard of the nights’ tastings along with our new Seppelt releases.

Feature article: Seppelt continues to innovate with sparkling wine under crown seal.

Victorian Regional Focus: Discover the Pyrenees Wine Region

Image - Seppelt Glenlofty Vineyard with the Pyrenees in the backgroundSeppelt’s Glenlofty Vineyard is located within the Pyrenees wine region. The climate is temperate with variations due to altitude. Much of the vineyard area lies between the towns of Avoca, Redbank and Moonambel.

The Glenlofty vineyard, 53km east of the Great Western Winery, was planted in 1995 to produce premium cool climate Shiraz and Chardonnay. Situated within a picturesque valley, the vineyard is bordered by a state forest to the north and grazing lands to the south – the vineyard itself used to be an Angora goat stud. Since 1995, a significant amount of work has taken place towards achieving biodiversity in the vineyard and its surrounds.

Under Vineyard Manager Ian McNeill, 10,000 trees indigenous to the area have been planted and there are plans to plant more around the Glenflofty creek beds to increase the overall biodiversity of the area. The soil type is predominantly clay loam and the rolling hills, typical of the Great Western region, make this vineyard one of Seppelt's most attractive. Glenlofty is also producing parcels of high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Roussanne, Marsanne, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot.
